Dominique:

Dominique:

The Raven Queen is always logging in

Hugo:

well b/c the map is usually not

When dominique was a child, her mother would speak of her work as
part of the cycle of life and death.
Of course, everyone did, but her mother's argumnt was better than
most.
She argued that by working with the dead, one could aid the
living, and better understand the movement between the two.
When she was s child, Dominique could see only the virtue of such
studies.
It was later she would learn that others studied death.
And a long time before she saw all the world had to show her, of
the horrors such study could unleash.
Sudura of Xols:
The Vampire Count collapses to the
floor and lies still, his snarl of defiance frozen on feral lips.
His undead form is resilient, and the heroes have but moments to
dispense him!
Sudura of Xols:
Even heroes of such great power are hard pressed to end
a vampire of comparable might. However, despite all his
innovations, while the specifics may differ, the general
philosophy of vampire slaying remains the same.
Effect: Sudura must be reduced to a negative hp
value equal to their hit points, and then slain in a
suitable manner in an ideal location.
Modifying the fog-of-war
manually without a server running affects only the global exposed area
(i.e. the entire map), even
if one or more tokens are selected. If
you want your changes to apply to individual tokens, start a MapTool

Individual Fog enabled (you can leave the Alias
field empty to make an anonymous server, if you wish).
This
warning will not appear again for this campaign.
Istahar:
"I'll leave the slaying part to you.
I'm afraid the undead aren't my specialty." She twirls towards the
doorway, feathers streaming behind her. "I can buy us a few
seconds against the spirits when they come, but not much more than
that."
Hugo:
"Damnit, I've never had to deal with a
vampire before - Usually just hitting things with the stick until
it stops moving is enough."
Hugo:
"Ideas?"
Dominique:
"Fire, silver, blessed objects. Pierce
the heart and sever the head."
elfDM:
The clock is stil ticking. You have a
lot of work ahead of you if you wish to finally dispatch this
abomination. You should take a moment to survey yhe area, and
consider the best method to dispath them.
Thyrn:
"Why not just get Dominique to do it
again? Worst comes to worst we can just bring the body out with
us."
elfDM:
kepe in mind, it may not be the msot
obvious vulnerabilities that will have the most effect
Thyrn:
"It is not as if he is heavy."
elfDM:
oh, and one more thing
Istahar:
"Well, he left us a convenient gift,
then," she says, thumbing to the boiling cauldron in the room's
center.
Sudura of Xols:
The Vampire Count has woven their undead form to be
extremly efficient in the use of the Fuel the living can
provide. Why even a drop of blood or shred of life essence
can work wonders for their necrometabolism.
Effect: Whenever a character takes damage within
the aura, Sudura of Xols gains that many Vitae Points. If
their vitae ever exceeds their negative hit point value,
they can awake with hit points equal to their vitae, which
is reduced to 0.
Hugo:
"Won't he just uh, wake up? Get up?
How does that work?"
Alex:
"If he was weaker I could annihilate
him all kind of ways. You sort of peel away the - the point is
he's thought of them."
Pierrot:
"Why not just book it with him right
now?"
Alex:
what are his current negative hitpoints
elfDM:
Also keep in mind that this area is
still wareded against teleportation. If you haul him out of here
and he does wake up, he could flee pretty easily and you'd be back
to square one.
elfDM:
ill didplay his hp on his token,
mouseover to see it, and his current vitae level
elfDM:
there may also be other features of
teh terrain that gift him vitae
Pierrot:
HRrrm.
Dominique:
Would the cauldron help us destroy
him, and/or is it fueling him such that we should destroy it?
Pierrot:
imo cauldrons are trouble
Istahar:
"If he awakes while we're fleeing, it
could cause a disaster." She clicks her tongue in irritation.
"Damn! Just when it was looking easy, for a change."
Alex:
i assume every one of those bubbling
cauldrons that's red contain blood?
Thyrn:
"I could try to sever his soul from
his carefully designed body... do you think he thought of that?"
Istahar:
"I wouldn't put it past him."
elfDM:
The Cauldron is purely alchemical,
altho that bubbling tub of blood up north is a worry. The fire
from the cauldron is fierce, but if Dominique was a self made
vampire, the first thing she'd do is remove vulnerability to fire.
Hugo:
"Hm, definitely worth keeping in our
back pocket, but let's review our options real fast."
Alex:
"Anyway, wood's easy, we've got trees
everywhere here. I'll arrange for some stakes while one of you
deal with the head - and we should drag him out into the light,
while we're at it."
Pierrot:
is there a sun here?
elfDM:
the sun does shine outside this dome,
correct
Alex:
"Now, he's not conscious so he can't
compulsively count anything, and anywhere we drag him we're
effectively inviting him to... Pierrot, how easily can you give us
some running water?"
Dominique:
"Alex, can you boil off or otherwise
destroy that pot of blood in such a way that wisps of it don't
somehow float over here?"
Istahar:
She furrows her brow. "Running
water... hurts him? That must be inconvenient."
Alex:
Alex makes his way south around the
small complex, waving a hand absent-mindedly at the dead trees
beside it and causing dozens of impromptu stakes to snap and peel
themselves free from the wood. They hang in the air and follow him
to Sudura.
elfDM:
remember, alex is outside with
lmiimted line of sight
Pierrot:
"Pretty easy but I bet we could make
do with that potion stuff too."
Dominique:
oh woops
Pierrot:
we're in combat time
elfDM:
there is also water outside
Alex:
"I could handle the vapor and such,
yeah."
Thyrn:
"..so what should I do?"
elfDM:
do remember, everything you do will be
in combat time
elfDM:
and you do ned to do a bunch of dmg to
him in any event
Pierrot:
"Well, not to be rude, but you need to
absolutely hack his body to shit."
Alex:
"Take off the head, and the arms, and
the... just make it harder for him to heal!"
Istahar:
"Shred the body as much as you can. I
doubt we can destroy him in his current state just by tossing him
over a river."
Pierrot:
"The formations and the synergies he's
set up in his internal alchemy are just too complex."
Alex:
oh, here's what i want to do
Dominique:
"Cut him to pieces, but not small
enough pieces that you accidentally lose any."
Alex:
i want to see what the actual function
of the rune he's defaced with blood is
Thyrn:
"...okay."
elfDM:
i will give you guys some data
Thyrn:
well it's still hugo's turn by Combat
Display
Istahar:
yeah, if hugo wanted to spend an AP or
not
Thyrn:
but i think it's mine in reality
Istahar:
if not then it's thyrn's turn
Hugo:
yeah i do not want to AP right now.
elfDM:
for instance, alex can tell from
memory that the rune is an alchemical artifice designed to prevent
contamination of the workshop. . it's not clear why sudura defaced
it
Thyrn has received initiative.
Hugo:
I've finished my turn.
elfDM:
nd rmember, in 2 rounds time, you will
have Company
Istahar:
so, assuming that proned stacks with
combat advantage, thyrn currently has a +9 bonus to hit
Thyrn:
Thyrn props the body up against the
wall for a moment, draws his blades, takes a deep breath.... and
exhales.
Thyrn:
actually he's helpless so I CDG
automatically
Istahar:
ah, cool
elfDM:
prone is ca iirc, but yeah
Thyrn:
Time to use a good power to fucking
obliterate his mortal form.
Thyrn:
"Behold.."
Thyrn:
Effect: You gain a +6 power bonus to damage rolls
but suffer a -2 penalty to AC.
Special: This stance ends when you spend a healing
surge. You can end this stance as a free action during your
turn but not on the same turn you activated it.
Alex:
thyrn's in extremely good shape, a
helpless target like sudura has like, -5 to all defenses on top of
everything else
Alex:
and might literally be autocrit or
something, i forget the full rules
Alex:
but basically coup de grace DOES exist
in 4e
Thyrn:
it's autocrit
Thyrn:
i think? dying counts as helpless i'm
FAIRLY sure

that'll do, gnoll
Hugo:
ACTually,
elfDM:
doh i forgot about coup de grace
elfDM:
sorry everyone, i meant to put that in
his superior being macro
Pierrot:
happyelf, sweating: uhh his unedad
form gives him 50% crit resistance,
elfDM:
it was not my intention for you to be
able to autocrit him
Hugo:
elfDM:
my aplogies for not being clear on this
Istahar:
ah, okay
Thyrn:
tfw holds off flavour
elfDM:
plz reroll, make sure you get all boni
from helpless, ect, but he can't be coup de graced. what kinda
perfect vampire would he be if you could do the ole lop and chop
that easily?
Alex:
i guess without autocrit we can use
thyrn's original roll?
Alex:
the 42 33 38
Thyrn:
if we use my original roll i literally
miss a dead body
Hugo:
you dont miss, its just chocked full
of undead magic
Thyrn:
which, i don't know, feels insanely
stupid and bad
Hugo:
soemeone give this man a reroll
elfDM:
to slay an immortal, one must strike
perfectly, much as thyrn does at other times. you can't just wail
away at the corpse.
elfDM:
but i am cool with you rerolling
Alex:
it's possible that 1s don't miss the
helpless, but if they do it's because of sudura's natural armor
class
elfDM:
since it was my bad you thought you
could coup
Alex:
super tough tissues that instantly
snap back together, etc
elfDM:
yeah he's made iof superdense hybrid
vampire/wight tissue
Thyrn:
*carefully explains to martial
character how he is unable to hit a dead body*
Alex:
wight power
Thyrn:
unfortunately i no longer have
compendium access
Hugo:
just reroll, helf said it was fine
Dominique:
imo that 1 hits the corpse but doesnt
do any damage
Alex:
yeah i can't check either, all i know
for certain is that helpless foes are an effective +7 to hit (ca +
-5 to their defenses)
Dominique:
or just reroll imo
Istahar:
yeah you should have a total of +12 to
hit when combined with my defense penalty
elfDM:
you can hit it, you just have to hit
it really well to overcome regeneration and resilience and make
sure you don't say, accidentally knock their head ito a bubbliong
cauldron of blood, ect, ect
elfDM:
and like i said, you can reroll

a ything else from thyrn this round?
move, minor?

Alex:

what action does it take to move sudura
Thyrn:
"Seems almost wrong to do this to a
body. Ah well," Thyrn bisects the body with an upward slash,
leaping up and slashing to prune the arms, and finally slamming a
thoroughly mutilated torso into the ground with pair of downward
swipes.

Hugo holds back a brief moment of
sickness watching the gorey display but regains his composure.
"Yeah, oof... let's just end this quicky."
Dominique:
"Not much a bleeder." Dominique says
dispassionately. "I suppose he'd begrudge every drop."
Alex:
"Which is good. We don't want to
spread that stuff around."
Pierrot:
alright, so.
Thyrn:
do you want me to pick him up and move?
Thyrn:
I still have a minor/move technically
Pierrot:
am i spoiling his blood cauldrons?
clearing the rune? grabbing the potion for Running-water?
Hugo:
water is the coolest option
elfDM:
as noted, there is actual water outside
elfDM:
altho it's pretty dank it could be
made to run
Alex:
i didn't realize that was water
Alex:
i thought it was sand or something
Thyrn:
well if I can do so with a move/minor
I'd like to collect his disparate body parts and prepare for
transport
Thyrn:
if needed I can always drop it as a
free action
elfDM:
you can do wiht with move+minor
Istahar:
sounds like a plan
Alex:
but rune, cauldron, and central
triangle thing are all scene elements i want to examine, and for
the actual killing attempt i think we want like stake + sunlight +
running water + garlic at the least
elfDM:
its is a bit fiddly what with the
dismemberment
Alex:
i bet there's some garlic on the
shelves
elfDM:
icymi, the rune is just to keep out
impurities, and it's unclear why sudura defaced it
Pierrot:
what is 'icymi'
elfDM:
in case you missed it
elfDM:
or In Contempt Yo missed info
Thyrn:
"Could someone uh.. find me a sack or
bag or something?" Thyrn picks up to the two arms and gives them a
little wiggle. "I might need a hand carrying all this!
Haha."
elfDM:
athe the stat fo your round
elfDM:
and figure out what you're doing
Istahar:
"I'm sure he'd lend you one, if you
asked." She unclips her cape, balls it, and hurls it at Thyrn.
"Carry it in this. I'll get Xaraphon to clean it after."
Dominique:
Dominique laughs behind her hand.
Alex:
well the question is what impurities
the rune actually keeps out
Alex:
that sudura would want to get rid of
Pierrot:
It probably keeps out unholy
abomionations.
Pierrot:

Suffered 10 dmg.
HP: 121 / 166 — Surges: 11 / 15 — APs:

Hugo wretches a bit at Thyrn's macabre
joke. "Y-yeah, I can help if you need it."
Alex:
hmm, does that mean that if we put him
right on top of it and then reactivate it it'll vape him
elfDM:
aalex can tell that
elfDM:
it's for basic impurities
elfDM:
like making sure people don't walk
itno the lab with a bunch of phlogiston on their boots or whatever
Alex:
well what basic impurities are present
in the feywild that would be deleterious to the experiments/battle
preparations of a supervampire. i'm pretty sure sudura isn't weak
to pollen
Alex:
either way, i think we can shortcut
the issue by just dragging him outside
elfDM:
to be clear, the rune he defaced
Thyrn:
"What, do not tell me you are unable
to manage such sights, Hugo." Thyrn piles the head in first,
followed by the arms, and then the legs. Mismatched parts, so they
don't fuse together on their own or something. "You know if this
was on the field of battle he would have been screaming and
bleeding everywhere during this too."
elfDM:
was the one keeping out impurities
Pierrot:
Alright, I'd like to take a quick
sweep of the shelves for vampirically-resonant materials like
garlic, silver, holy water, that kind of stuff, and then i also
want to see what's going on with the blood, acid, and poison
cauldrons, and the second blood cauldron.
Alex:
ohh
Alex:
there's not like, an open roof or
anything is there
Alex:
or heck, a strong beam of sunlight in
through a window
elfDM:
with snulight and vampires, more is
always better
Alex:
we have to balance that against the
idea of a re-established clean room, of course. but maybe we can
duplicate the rune's effect with some study outside
Hugo:
"I like to think I have the courtesy
of either knocking my foe out or just rattling their domes enough
to skip the screaming and bleeding part. It's one advantage
fighting with your fists has, but I suppose it's failed to ready
me to play mortician..." Hugo reaches down and pinches the
vampire's thigh between his fingers, recoiling a bit as he lifts
it up.

elfDM:

no silver of holy water, and you can
provide that yourselves, more or less, pierrot does find some
feywild garlic stored in a very secure flask. he can sterelize the
eniter lab with a standard aciton but keep in mind, running water
is an issue, too
Alex:
well alex can take care of the water
if need be. although there's also stakes
Pierrot:
oh how fresh was the blood btw
Thyrn:
"Well, is there any reason to stay, or
is this something we can do elsewhere?"
Alex:
and was it all his
Alex:
"We almost definitely want him
outside."
Istahar:
"Not that I can think of. Get him into
the light."
elfDM:
the blood did not seem fresh
elfDM:
you're quite sure it was his
Pierrot:
Well, maybe we want to hurl him out
through the window, lol.
Thyrn:
well if I still have a move I will, if
not someone else who is very strong can carry him out
elfDM:
thyrn's actions are all used upbut he
can hand off the burden if need be
elfDM:
wht actions are pierrot taking?
Pierrot:
well im just not real clear on what my
actual action economy is. like what if he's got Backup Tissue or
even a gross vampire fetus inside one of the blood cauldrons. what
kind of action is it to chek that kind of thing and/or spoil the
blood cauldrons
elfDM:
a standard. you can just vaporize
everything in the room, you're the master of storms
elfDM:
these are apparatus, you just took
down the actual guy, his lab kit is not more formidable or
treacherous than he is
elfDM:
you can burn it all down to carbon on
the floor
Alex:
just get the garlic first!
Pierrot:
Alright. Then after I grab the garlic
I'm just going to straight up smoke the room with my standard.
Pierrot:
Pierrot's been thinking about the best
way to sterilize Sudura's lab. You never know if he's got any
backup coffins of soil or whatever a wight uses to reincarnate.
But as usual the simplest way is the quickest. "Please take your
hands off the equipment" says Pierrot, and as his friends lift
their hands it all explodes in a shower of sparks and glass.
Pierrot:
"Let's get him outside, quick. And ...
don't breathe if you don't have to."
Pierrot:
Then with my move I'll tp through the
window and begin helping Alex with his preparations

Thyrn:

alright, i want to snap some stakes
off the nearby trees whilst moving forward and getting the water
clean + flowing
Alex:
can that be like minor, move, standard
elfDM:
sure, although the master of storms
would doa lot better with the water
elfDM:
minor move standard can stake, move,
and purify the water, but pierrot will need to get it moving
Alex:
well, if he can do that next turn i
guess i can like set up some force lenses to focus the sunlight

Modifying the fog-of-war
manually without a server running affects only the global exposed area
(i.e. the entire map), even
if one or more tokens are selected. If
you want your changes to apply to individual tokens, start a MapTool
server with
Individual Fog enabled (you can leave the Alias
field empty to make an anonymous server, if you wish).
This

alright, i'll stick with alchemical

Alex:

Alex strides forward, brow furrowed in
concentration. He's surrounded by a small swarm of wooden stakes,
as though by the stingers of otherwise invisible and gigantic
hornets, and he's gesturing and mouthing words silently at the
water before him all the while. Signs draw themselves into the
ripples, and serpents of calcified gray and brown go crawling into
the grass at the water's edge while the water itself turns clear
and sparkling.

the Count
As hugo passes over the Rune in the main cirridor, he feels as if
his grusome burden has grown oddly heavier. He glances back and sees
most of the blood on the floor as it glops gruesomely up into Istahar's
cape, seeping into the body parts within!
elfDM:

Istahar should move adjacent to me so
I can carry m'lady if this ends up being a footrace
Istahar:
In a running swoop, she grabs one of
the nearby stakes, holding it next to her sword. The metal warps
and twists into a long, spearlike shaft, holding the nestled stake
as its point. She vaults forwards and plunges the stake-spear deep
into the vampire's black heart, the tip glinting with the power of
the Supernal.
Istahar:
The shaft hums in triumph as she
twists it into Sudura's torso until there's a satisfying squelch
of something bursting.
Sudura of Xols:
At the final moment, the Vampire Count
struggles fourth, streams of dark blood struggling to drag his
form into cohesion- but it is far too late. The Running water, the
Faewild noonday sun, garlic, silver, stake of ash, all too much to
his defences to overcome in such a state of ruin.
Sudura of Xols:
The Stake pierces his heart as heaves
in his shattered torso, and his eyes widen
Hugo:
"... Gross."
Sudura of Xols:
"They're coming Pierrot- I. . I don't

flowing back into a sword, which she sheathes.

down until nothinf of his malice remains.

Alex, actions? You can sense them out
there, closing fast. But something is confusing you about how
they're moving. It's very concrete, not really magical at all, but
you can't quite find the range on them. They're so swift, but
always seem to be a lot closer than you expect them to be. No
details yet.. they're too far out, and moving too fast
Alex:
"They're coming on foot, or horseback
- and they'll keep coming and keep getting closer literally no
matter how much ground we cover, I think."

elfDM:

Hugo:
yep
elfDM:

because you can skip to the next map
fi you want- ok
Hugo:
oh ok
Hugo:

Hugo:

so lez do it
Thyrn has received initiative.
Hugo:
I've finished my turn.
Istahar:
"I doubt I can match your pace, to be
frank, Thyrn." She clears her throat. "Would you mind-"
Thyrn:
so what kind of action does it take to
pick someone up
elfDM:
roll atheltics to do it as a minor
Thyrn:
*blows dust off book labeled SKILLS*

Thyrn:

Istahar:
the good shit.
Thyrn:
"Of course not-" Thyrn hooks an arm
under Istahar's knees, and picks her up like one would a wounded
soldier. "-it is time to move very quickly, after all."
elfDM:
i assuem this is soem kinda cool thyrn
\runnign wihtistahar boosting off him and gliding thing
Thyrn:
Alright. I double run move, for 26
tiles,

Thyrn:

which is uh

Thyrn:

more than is visible
elfDM:
dtriaght south ia ssume?
Thyrn:
yeah
Istahar:
She lets her wings curl inwards until
they vanish. She coughs into her sleeve and mumbles a, "Thank
you," as Thyrn takes off like an arrow.
Thyrn:
Nothing is faster than a dog.
Pierrot has received initiative.
Hugo:
"Let's keep moving, people! We've got,
uh, something back there!"
Pierrot:
Thyrn:
Thyrn's soars across the smooth stone
with a grace unbecoming of his size. "Consider yourself lucky,
only a handful of human orphans, injured Skyrunners, and a certain
someone have shared this experience."
Pierrot:
believe it or not, im in a position
wher ei have to USE A POWER not to be straight up a turn behind
Pierrot:
so i get onto the bridge and then i
take off running. "Shit, shit shit. Fuck."
Istahar:
"It's certainly..." The wind tears
through her hair like a tornado. "How do you run this
fast?"
elfDM:
ok, here it comes,
The sound again. That noise. Closer. A call to the hunt.
Thyrn:
"Training."
Sudura said that the thicket was a defence. A distraction.
That the Hedge Row was not the place the real menace lurked.
That Madness and Fickele whims, chaos and the unknowable, these
were not the faces of true horror.
What horror did he speak of? What could be worse than Madness?
It comes at you, barreling through the alchemists lab. The dome
explodes into rubble at it's passing

Hugo:
"What--"
Istahar:
"Give me a lesson, then, when we're
not busy trying to stop one madman or another." She grabs a
handful of hair to keep it out of her eyes as she turns to see the
Wraith Lord barreling through the ruins.
Alex:
i assume that the word 'wraithlord'
actually does just float in small caps in front of and beside that
thing
Wraith Lord:
It lands on the other edge of the
bridge with a shuddering boom which shakes your feet as you run.
It lands smoothe, like an acrobat, despite it's immense, towering
sieze and the alien cast of it's otherwise humanoid form.
Pierrot whispers: oh hell
yes!!!!!!!!!!
Wraith Lord:
As it rises high on angular, armored
legs, a deep droning song emerges from the featureless face. The
Horn of the Wild Hunt
Thyrn:
"Since the day I was told my mother
was dead I have trained to be the strongest, most skilled soldier
the world has ever known. Nearly every spare hour I spend upon
this. That is all there is to it." Thyrn ventures a peek over his
shoulder- the others better hurry the fuck up.
"Hey! Pick up the pace!"
Hugo:
"Is that a warforged?!"
Pierrot:
"It's if the guy who invented the
warforged worked on his craft for another millennium! With his
colleagues!"
Wraith Blade 6:
Smaller figures blur into view through
the treeline. Larger than giants, swfter than elves. Twin blades
whirl around them as they run, an endless wardance across the
landscape.
Hugo:
Hugo mutters something under his
breath about the feywild and warforged make no sense together but
mostly just keeps running.
Thyrn:
"We are ABSOLUTELY NOT fighting those!
Come on, come on!"
Wraith Knight 2:
Two larger ones drop onto the ground
behind their smaller escorts, wicked looking lances protruding
from each arm.
Alex:
"This is absurd-" Alex isn't slowin
down, though.
Istahar:
"I'm glad we didn't waste much time
back there."
Wraith Lord:
The entities that pursue you are
beyond construct, perhaps by a thousand years or more. They move
like living things, swifter and more agile, but massive, built of
materials that can only be imagined, woven with precsion that is
dreamlike, and yet it seems, defines a valid concepttion of matter
and energy moving as one.
Hugo:
"Yeah I'm glad I just ignored all
direction and took the worst possible path outside. Really worked
out in the long run."
The Vampire Count built himself towards immortality. And he feared
these thins.
You whisper to Riidi: Pirrot
can glimpse a sigil upon them. A heart in a chalice. An old eladrin
symbol related to the afterlife. 'Beyond death, a worthy vessle for a
valiant Soul."
Istahar:
She grips at her shoulder, grimacing.
"I'm only glad those things seem to be stuck here, at
least. That's a battlefield nightmare waiting to happen."
Pierrot:
One of the benefits of an elemental
body is that you don't actually use your mouth to draw in
oxygen.
elfDM:
the rule is, you gotta get off the
bottom of the second map
elfDM:
theone you can see to the south
Pierrot:
While running at top speed, Pierrot
still has plenty of opportunity to gripe. "This is definitely
worse than I thought. The great thing is, I already thought it was
really bad."
elfDM:
if you do that, you're home free!
elfDM:
and don't let up because thee things
are fast
Wraith Lord:
Despite their size, these entities move with speed and a
fluid grace, the mass of their towering forms another weapon
in their arsenal.
Effect: The Wraithguard move with unerarthly
grace, but are in fact subject to inertia, making their
momentum at speed a constant concern.
Each of the
wraithguard have a facing indicator which shows which
direction their momentum is taking them in. They can trigger
special actions that move them along the path of their
momentum, shift its heading when they take cetrtain actions,
and use it in other ways. They are also limited by inertia-
it is difficult for them to reverse course, and their
ability to evade is limited by their current momentum.
Any
movement taken using momentum cannot be prevented, cancelled
or reduced, but if it would normally be prevented or
cancelled, the Wraith Guard falls prone once the movement is
complete, and the fall provokes opportunity attacks. Forced
movement along the momentum heading gains a +3 bonus and
maxxed out knocks the WraithGuard prone triggering oas- but
forced movement not along the heading must spend 1 square of
movement to rotate the intertia marker one step before
beginning forced movement along the new heading.
Pierrot:
"I don't think they're stuck here,
Istahar. I think this is just where they live."
Istahar:
"Then let's hope they like
it here!"
elfDM:
they don't act this round obv
Pierrot:
"Also, and I don't want to
sound alarmist here, but I'm pretty sure that each of them is just
one eladrin."
Pierrot has received initiative.
Initiative: Wraith Lord rolled 27.20.

hmm. have we seen what their actual
Speeds are
Hugo:
well on the bright side hugo can make
it south in two turns of non-running
Istahar:
istahar can hop off here and make it
the rest of the way under her own steam in one turn
Istahar:
so thyrn can help someone else to the
finish line if necessary
Wraith Lord:
There is no pause in the motion. It
sprints towards you, the ground shattering with each lunging step,
their blade at the ready!
Alex:
alright, i'm going to double Run -
actually you know what i'm not even sure if you CAN "Run" if
you're using a fly speed in the first place?
elfDM:
in terms of basic speed, the big ones
are moving at speed 7, the smaler ones speed 6, but they're
barrleing alogn so fast alex is pretyt sure they could just leap
into the air and sail for miles. you're not sure you can outrun
them
Istahar:
from what i understand, flying is just
regular movement but with the ability to change height
elfDM:
what si your non fly speed
Istahar:
such that you can also shift or take
other appropriate actions with it
Thyrn:
worse comes to worst i can try to
tangle one of them up and then just book it after
Alex:
my speed is 6, and i can fly my
speed+2 at will
Thyrn:
and not in a suicidal way too, i have
some very strong outs
Alex:
so in effect i'm already "running".
hoever i don't think i can run ON TOP of that to go 10
elfDM:
well run boosts your speedsurelt
elfDM:
no speed+2 isn't a run
Alex:
no, Run is an action wherein you move
your speed +2
Pierrot:
i'm sad i don't have wakeman's
invocation any longer
elfDM:
i thin youre' right
Alex:
so the question is, if you have a fly
speed, can you Run... your fly speed?? no idea
elfDM:
soudsliek no since they both derive
from speed
Alex:
yeah. so i should be 2 north
Alex:
so here's what i do. i TRIPLE move, by
activating this:
Alex:
Effect: You take a standard action, which you
cannot use to make an attack.
Alex:
all three actions fly 8 southwards
Alex:
there we are
Thyrn:
where is alex on init
Istahar:
he should be at the top
Alex:
oops, i had to cut paste to move my
self over the gap there
Alex:
yeah i'm at the top

Alex:

Alex finds himself in the unenviable
position of being the guy that everyone else has to outrun instead
of the bear. Fortunately, he's got plenty of time, ahaha, to fix
that problem. There's a rapid shift in the lower color scheme as
well as a rapidly accelerating ticking sound, and suddenly the
wizard's ahead of Pierrot and Dominique rather than behind them,
apparently benefiting from a head start no one saw.

he seems unconcerned for his friends - maybe he just has enough
faith in their abilities, but either way he is moving as fast as
he can.

Istahar:

"Help the others! I can make it from
here." She pats Thyrn on the shoulder as she rotates in his arms,
suddenly springing with an unnatural grace as her wings unfurl

i might backtrack to help pierrot

also, im having REAL trouble clicking

Thyrn:

running over, picking up pierrot, and
then running is quite amusing conceptually, and probably the
superior move here
Thyrn:
I'd have to double run again and I'd
end up in the same spot I am now.. hmm
Thyrn:
there's little use in me just escaping
right now frankly, so let's go back
Thyrn:
wait, can I do that with 13..
elfDM:

it costs no movement to move betwene
aps

Thyrn:
well I successfully don't even know
where I started from
elfDM:
altho there is an abstracted distance
Pierrot:
It doesn't look like Pierrot can
possibly stand up to the humming, smooth monstrosity's blade. As
he parries its humongous sword it knocks him head over heels.
Istahar:
you were one south and one east of
where dominique is standing right now, iirc
Alex:
if it costs no movement i should be
one more square south, as i treated it as a one square step
Thyrn:
so if the gap counts as zero or one
square I think I'm set
elfDM:
anythign else from thyrn?
Pierrot:
Although, really, "monstrosity" is a
bigoted and inaccurate term.
Thyrn:
well, if this is a valid move then I'm
going to scoop my boy Pierrot up and then run back

Alex:

"...just artifice," Alex says to no

and then the other. Behind him, the portal flashes iron grey and
then winks out entirely.

Thyrn hops off the pad and dusts his

Hugo, leaning over, hands on knees,

Ilvular:

"What happened in there? Are we at

Pierrot:
"It's not just artifice,
it's the artifice of centuries from thousands of minds."

Darferanai:

"You got Xols, right?"

Istahar:
"Never, preferably. We were just
chased by..." She waves a hand vaguely in Pierrot's direction. "...something."

Istahar:

"He is dead, yes."
Istahar:
Her sword lets out a muffled chime in
confirmation.
Alex:
"Yes, yes, but that's still just
artifice. There's a path from here to there. The question is, what
the hell is it for?"
Thyrn:
"Xols is dead. Delhallan is dead.
Unfortunately those two deathwatch stooges got away..."
Xaztaroth:
"Good. Very good. I feel an easing in
the winds of time. You slew an apocalpse today."
Alex:
"Can the Realm actually summon them as
reinforcements? Is there something even worse to guard against?
Are they that bored?"
Pierrot:
"I'm gonna be honest: my bet is on the
last one."
Alex:
"Along with my hopes. ...well, maybe
not."
Alex:
"Because it might mean we've piqued
their interest."
Istahar:
"I'll trust your intuition. I imagine
you'd know them best out of all of us."
Pierrot:
"But, really, how can we know? I'm
certainly not gonna go ask them."
Alex:
"Those golem bodies... they didn't
really match the statues, the architecture. Did they displace
something more classical?"
Thyrn:
"Perhaps it is something best left for
much later."
Halhorim:
"What about the tower? We were trying
to extend the academy into the feywild. That's the purpose of this
portal, after all!"
Pierrot:
"That symbol was ancient,
though."
Xaztaroth:
"Cities rise and fall, alex. Sometimes
they consume themselves."
Alex:
"What, the heart-ankh thing?"
Pierrot:
"Yeah. Translation's something like
... 'A worthy vessel for a brave warrior?' "
Telenith:
"Chalice and Heart? That's Blessed
Realm Dogma, alright."
Thyrn:
"That sounds.. somewhat horrific, yes?
Imagine being stuck in a war machine after your death.."
Alex:
"A vessel, though. Is that all that
fey heaven's immortality is? The ole soul jar gambit times ten
million?"
Pierrot:
"Well, it's evidently not dogma, it's
just ... a fact."
Alex:
"Sounds like a bit of a con, doesn't
it? If I was one of you I'd certainly just expect a continuous
existence as some kind of luminous sprite or whatever. Not... what
we saw."
Alex:
"And who built the first one? What
preceded them?"
Xaztaroth:
"That depends on your conception of
death. If the Fae as we knew them sought. . endless whim and
fickle games.. these things you met sought something else in
death.. ."
Pierrot:
"You don't necessarily have the right
meaning of 'vessel' there. For all I know they are also
luminous sprites."
Hugo:
"I don't think the Fae seek anything
beyond how best to make a pest of themselves to be frank, and I'd
say those... whatever they were seemed to embody that desire quite
aptly."
Pierrot:
"Or maybe there's a normal-sized
eladrin inside each of them controlling it with her mind. I mean
it could be a lot of things."
Alex:
"Just piloting those things rather
than being them? I dunno..."
Telenith:
"Vessle in this sense often meant
well, a new body after death. Rebirth."
Telenith:
"But even if they are it, they could
endure beyond it. Just look at Delhallan."
Istahar:
"Not anymore, thankfully."
Alex:
"Either way, I've no intention to give
up on the feywild in the long term. It's a basically
comprehensible horror we met out there."
Alex:
"I'll give it a bit, then do soundings
on the hedge to figure out just how far things are like to travel
through it in both directions, etcetera."
Ero'din:
"Delhallan was becoming one of the Fae
of the Thicket. Growing more warped over time, even when putting
fouth a gilded glamor. These things took another path, but you
should not underestimate them simply because you see them as more
mundane."
Istahar:
"A basically comprehensible horror
that'll have to wait in line behind the other twenty we've
still to deal with." She brushes off her pants, grumbling. "...and
I'll need a new cape, come to think of it."
Pierrot:
"Just for starters, how many eladrin
do you think have died?"
Xaztaroth:
"After all, the greatest horrors of
the world are not manic or fickle or unknoable. . they are acts of
banality."
Pierrot:
"It's a huge fucking
number!"
Darferanai:
"But is it all of them? What about
this city we glimpsed. Were their others? Was there a . a
conflict? A shift in power? Where are they all?"
Thyrn:
"It is about to be a lot larger! Haha.
err- I mean with the war.." Thyrn forgot how many Eladrin were in
attendance. "You know what? Nevermind."
Hurarn Thunderfell:

"Please show some sensitivty, Thyrn."

Alex:
"Well, you know, more non-Eladrin than
Eladrin have died and I don't quake in my boots at the very
existence of necromancy. There's a reason the place looked
abandoned when we got there - a reason those things don't just
stomp around the mortal world."
Alex:
"They're like Sudura's bomb, I think -
they can't actually exist up here sustainably. Their
machine-bodies are built on principles that stop being true when
you aren't in fairyland."
Hugo:
"I hope you're right."
Thyrn:
"I did not mean these
Eladrin, Hurarn..."
Istahar:
"As do I."
Darferanai:
"Stop being true or just can't be true
yet? There's a difference there."
Pierrot:
"That's highly possible, Alex, but it
still means I don't want our people crossing over to be killed."
Pierrot:
"And, parenthetically, wasn't this whole
exercise precisely because we have an appropriate and
measured fear of the dangers of necromancy when wielded by someone
with ambition and vision?!"
Alex:
"Well, if at all possible the next
time I poke my head in there it'll be through a different portal
and after we've settled the war."
Alex:
"Yeah, and it turned out that what one
man builds another can break. He was immortal, but not invincible."
Thyrn:
"Nobody is."
Telenith:
"He was also working alone-"
Davidson Graves:
"I h-helped him-"
Thyrn:
"We should get word of his defeat out.
I want the Realm to fear us."
Telenith:
"-effecticly alone. We have no idea
how these things fit into the Plan of the Gods, assuming they do."
Pierrot:
"If anything, Thyrn, maybe we should
get word out that he escaped our grasp."
Pierrot:
"That would at least make those slimy
little shits look over their shoulders."
Telenith:
"I can send word but. . he was an
urban myth. . andthis Deathwatch? It's quite a tangle of scandals
to get good propaganda out of. . it will bruise them, certainly. .
if not his house. . Old Family."
Telenith:
"That might work better. . "
Istahar:
She nods. "Good thinking, Pierrot. If
they think he's still lurking out there, they might hesitate where
they otherwise wouldn't."
Alex:
"It'd be better for the Deathwatch to
be terrified of the subversion and consumption Sudura had planned
for them, I think."
Telenith:
"We can go with that, then."
Hugo:
"What should we do with uh," Hugo
scratches his neck and cocks his head toward the Artist. "--Him?"
Istahar:
She shrugs. "Let him paint? Or not, as
the case might be. I imagine he'd prefer a vacation."
Ilvular:
"We can tend to him. We have quarters
for those who are. . damage dby their interactions with the Art."
Ilvular:
"We can also provide for the prisoner,
of course."
Pierrot:
"But yeah. I met our great-uncles. How
many people can say that, eh?"
Thyrn:
"Hey. You know much about the
Deathwatch? You said you served with them, correct?"
Thyrn:
Offhandedly: "I never even met any
family past my mom. I can barely fathom meeting dead great
parents."
Istahar:
"I don't even have family."
Telenith:
"My living relatives are bad enough. .
"
Telenith:
"So much for the old monsters. . "
Hugo:
"Yeah I suppose that works. If he
needs his head out of the academy for a while there's always an
open bed over at my school." Maybe he just has some sympathy for a
fellow Feywild-Hater.
Davidson Graves:
"I am more than happy to infom you-"
of course, he's heard nothing of his master's fate, or anything
else you don't wish himto, thanks for the skarner-keepers flanking
him.
Thyrn:
"Are you 'more than happy'? You seem
kind of... jumpy."
Hurarn Thunderfell:
"Hugo may be able to provide some aid
to the artist. . the Spire benefits greatly from uh. . different
trails to game."
Davidson Graves:
"I simply wish to assit you. . the
deathwatch. . they are villains most foul!"
elfDM:
we might wrap it up here folks, unless
you guys wanna do a bit more talks
elfDM:

i got other bts waiting but we'll need
more time for them
Alex:
"Ugh, though. No closer to deciphering
what it was Xaztaroth saw, farther from a genuine feywild
tower."
Thyrn:
"Well, if you do think they are
villains, we can probably make use of you."
Thyrn:
"Still-" Thyrn stretches his arms
"-this was a bit of an unexpected detour, was it not? I almost
forget what it is we came to the tower for.. nothing, right?
Just.. to get back here. Yeah."
Davidson Graves:
"C-certainly!"
Dominique:
"Extending the Academy into the
Feywild seems like an alarming prospect, given the Eldest."
Darferanai:
"Agreed."
Telenith:
"I- but- this is- look i'm dfar more
interested in the supernal but- "
Hugo:
"Yeeeaaahhhhh..."
Alex:
"The Eldest just got their first."
Istahar:
"I'll take you on a tour, then,
Telenith. For the moment, better we not go poking our nose into too
many Planes at once."
Alex:
"They did the same bloody thing! They
extended their dominion into the Feywild and, as we can see,
reaped substantial benefits. Ignoring it would be folly."
Thyrn:
Thyrn mimics the 'substantial
benefits' line but with finger quotes.
Darferanai:
"We're already in the fight of our
lives."
Hugo:
"As well as millions of other lives."
Alex:
"Then we need every edge we can get."
Thyrn:
"We do, but there are resources and
time required to gain this edge. They might be better spent
elsewhere." Thyrn shrugs. "Your tower, however. Do as you see fit."
Pierrot:
"Is this gonna be an edge within the,
like, eight days we have left?"
Alex:
"I'm thinking more than eight days
ahead."
Thyrn:
"Right.. there is merit to that."
Thyrn:
"I wish this would all stop with the
Realm, but I know it does not. Still, one step at a time you know."
Istahar:
"Plan as you will, but we'll have to
save the expedition for later. Our itinerary overflows as it is."
Alex:
"Gods, just - the ability to
substitute dream logic for real logic whenever it comes
convenient, and they basically use it on swords and armor.
The actual essence of faerie compressed into a border wall. If I
had a sliver of their opportunity-"
Pierrot:

Its pretty chill that Alex is definitely
at least as dangerous as everyonte we've ever fought put together.

To be honest I could do with just some sitting down, even in a

Thyrn:

Thyrn grits his teeth. "Let's

Wooden Cow:

Wooden Cow:
